PASSIVE VOICE


USE:

-    Destacar la acción y no el sujeto
-    Cuando el sujeto que realiza la acción es obvio, desconocido o no se quiere nombrar

FORM:

Present: am/is/are + participle  ---- This book is written by Maria
                                                                        isn’t written
Past: was/were + participle ---- This book was written by Oscar Wilde
                                                                  wasn’t written
Future: This city will be visited by 1000 people
                           won’t be visited

Interrogative: Will the book be published next year?
                      When was the book published?
* Cuando el verbo principal de la oración rige una preposición esta se pone al final de la frase

COMO PASAR UNA FRASE DE ACTIVA A PASIVA

-    Se utiliza siempre el verbo to be, este verbo irá en el mismo tiempo verbal que tenía el verbo principal en activa. El verbo principal irá en participio.
Active: They opened an Art Gallery
Passive: An Art Gallery was opened

-    El complemento pasa a sujeto
Active: They used ink to write
Passive: Ink was used to write

*¡Ojo con los pronombres!
Active: Lola told me the plans
Passive: I was told her plans

-    El sujeto de la frase active se pone al final con by
Active: He found the book
Passive: The book was found by him
